{"id":3399,"date":"2020-10-02T17:11:38","date_gmt":"2020-10-02T21:11:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.richmond.edu\/lawlibrary\/?p=3399"},"modified":"2020-10-05T16:18:23","modified_gmt":"2020-10-05T20:18:23","slug":"a-few-tips-for-better-zoom-meetings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/create.richmond.edu\/lawlibrary\/?p=3399","title":{"rendered":"Tips for Better ZOOM Meetings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here is a list of ZOOM tips I created for an upcoming <a href=\"https:\/\/uronline.net\/law-alumni-panel-richmond-law-beyond-150?erid=24790100&amp;trid=2967d630-13c7-4085-8e25-c863bd1bf3be\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alumni Panel<\/a> that will take place during the <a href=\"https:\/\/law150.richmond.edu\/virtual_celebration\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">150th Anniversary<\/a> virtual celebration starting next week.\u00a0 \u00a0 This is not a comprehensive list, and the list doesn&#8217;t include all the extra steps that are required for conducting a class via zoom in a classroom (double monitors, screen share, etc), but this list might be useful for anyone participating in a meeting, or speaking on a panel, or doing a presentation via ZOOM.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><u>ZOOM TIPS <\/u><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Update ZOOM :\u00a0 open the ZOOM app on your computer, and click your profile icon at the top right of the ZOOM app home screen, and select \u201cCheck for Updates\u201d in the dropdown.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-3402\" src=\"https:\/\/create.richmond.edu\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/50\/2020\/10\/Screen-Shot-2020-10-02-at-4.50.35-PM-1024x855.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"536\" height=\"447\" srcset=\"https:\/\/create.richmond.edu\/lawlibrary\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/50\/2020\/10\/Screen-Shot-2020-10-02-at-4.50.35-PM-1024x855.png 1024w, https:\/\/create.richmond.edu\/lawlibrary\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/50\/2020\/10\/Screen-Shot-2020-10-02-at-4.50.35-PM-150x125.png 150w, https:\/\/create.richmond.edu\/lawlibrary\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/50\/2020\/10\/Screen-Shot-2020-10-02-at-4.50.35-PM-300x250.png 300w, https:\/\/create.richmond.edu\/lawlibrary\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/50\/2020\/10\/Screen-Shot-2020-10-02-at-4.50.35-PM-768x641.png 768w, https:\/\/create.richmond.edu\/lawlibrary\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/50\/2020\/10\/Screen-Shot-2020-10-02-at-4.50.35-PM.png 1500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 536px) 100vw, 536px\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If possible, use a\u00a0wired\u00a0(ethernet) connection (not wireless) to ensure stability of the connection.\u00a0 If one isn\u2019t available, you should be ok as long as you have a fast, wireless connection, and you\u2019re close to your modem.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Remember to\u00a0close any other programs on your laptop\u00a0that may use computer memory or internet bandwidth.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ask others in your household to temporarily refrain from streaming video on their computers, phones, or your SMART-TV via streaming services like Netflix or Amazon etc.\u00a0 This will greatly affect the bandwidth available for your ZOOM call.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Try to reduce background noises and position yourself close to the microphone &#8212; or wear a headset mic. which can sometimes make it difficult to see your face clearly on a ZOOM call).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>If you\u2019re a current student, faculty, or staff member at University of Richmond, always make sure to sign in with SSO (Single Sign On) to make sure you\u2019re accessing the premium features of ZOOM available through UR\u2019s institutional ZOOM license.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>For even better audio, try enabling the new &#8220;High Fidelity Music Mode&#8221; feature in ZOOM.\u00a0 \u00a0Click the Settings wheel in your app (just below your profile icon &#8211;\u00a0 top right corner of app home screen), then select &#8220;Audio&#8221; (or if you&#8217;re already in a meeting, click the up arrow next to the mic icon at the bottom of the ZOOM window, and select Audio Settings).\u00a0 Then, click &#8220;Advanced&#8221;
