Growing up in London, Winehouse was a member of the <a href=\"https:\/\/nyjo.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">National Youth Jazz Orchestra<\/a>, later signing a publishing deal with major record label EMI and then finally Island Records in 2002. She produced two studio albums, <em><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Frank_(Amy_Winehouse_album)\" target=\"_blank\">Frank<\/a><\/em> in 2003 and then <em><a href=\"https:\/\/richmond.primo.exlibrisgroup.com\/permalink\/01URICH_INST\/191gg5k\/alma9928691795306241\" target=\"_blank\">Back to Black<\/a><\/em> in 2006. <\/p>\n<p>In 2008, Winehouse won 5 Grammys for her <em><a href=\"https:\/\/richmond.primo.exlibrisgroup.com\/permalink\/01URICH_INST\/191gg5k\/alma9928691795306241\" target=\"_blank\">Back to Black<\/a><\/em> album, Best New Artist, Record of the Year, Song of the Year for \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/KUmZp8pR1uc?si=BGITecyIunQmdaWg\" target=\"_blank\">Rehab<\/a>\u201d, and Best Pop Vocal Album. In a world where Soul and Jazz are fading genres, Winehouse incorporates a blend of Soul, Jazz, R&amp;B, and pop in her music, drawing from various timeframes. Songs like \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tears_Dry_on_Their_Own\" target=\"_blank\">Tears Dry on Their Own<\/a>\u201d and \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/lzKQ9I-2AXY?si=DkB467GAYIk3UwBf\" target=\"_blank\">He Can Only Hold Her<\/a>\u201d draw from classic Motown tunes such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allmusic.com\/artist\/marvin-gaye-mn0000316834\" target=\"_blank\">Marvin Gaye<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tammi_Terrell\" target=\"_blank\">Tammi Terrell<\/a>\u2019s 1967 \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ain%27t_No_Mountain_High_Enough\" target=\"_blank\">Ain\u2019t No Mountain High Enough<\/a>\u201d and The Icemen\u2019s 1966 \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/Gn15oG6jiFU?si=T-hHO8xQQklwIh9V\" target=\"_blank\">My Girl (She\u2019s a Fox)<\/a>\u201d, bringing back the 60s. The use of rich horns, dominant bass lines, and big band presence in \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rehab_(Amy_Winehouse_song)\" target=\"_blank\">Rehab<\/a>\u201d and \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/8kvb-pJEeEI?si=B6ROdeJVBBVO5sCg\" target=\"_blank\">Me &amp; Mr. Jones<\/a>\u201d, to name a few, demonstrates the artist&#8217;s inspiration from 1950\u2019s\/60\u2019s Jazz. <\/p>\n<p>The artist&#8217;s impact on the world of retro-soul led to the release of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt21261712\/?ref_=fn_t_1\" target=\"_blank\">biopic <em>Back to Black<\/em><\/a> in 2024. According to IMDb, the film received a 6.3\/10 rating, though focusing more on Winehouse\u2019s romantic relationships than her career, according to the New York Times. The movie paid tribute to Winehouse and her career\u2019s impact after her unexpected death in 2011 due to alcohol poisoning.
