We know your 1L fall semester felt like a blur. Between adjusting to law school, tackling new doctrinal courses, and learning the fundamentals of Legal Research and Legal Writing… well, a lot happened in a short amount of time (to say the least). If you’re worried your legal research skill may have gotten rusty before your summer placement, you’re definitely not alone. But worry not, the Law Library is here to help!
To help students prepare for summer work, the Law Library is once again offering Lunchtime Labs, a series of hands-on refresher workshops designed to help you feel confident jumping back into legal research this summer.
These small-group sessions revisit core research skills involving secondary sources, cases, and statutes. Each lab focuses on practical strategies for finding and using the materials you are most likely to encounter during summer work, including cases, statutory authority, practice materials, and research tools. The lunch hour sessions are open to both 1L and 2L students and provide a low-pressure opportunity to refresh and practice essential skills.
The program will run over three weeks, with two identical sessions offered for each topic:
Week 1 (March 23 & 25): Secondary sources and practice materials
Week 2 (March 30 & April 1): Cases, digests, and citators
Week 3 (April 6 & 8): Statutes, annotated or otherwise
All sessions will take place in Room 300 and are limited to 25 students to allow time for guided instruction and questions. Lunch will be provided. Please note that sessions covering the same topic are identical, so you only need to register for one session per week. Make sure to register at this link!
